Jim co-founded Partners in Financial Planning, LLC in 2009. He has authored the book entitled “Financial Planning for the Older Client” as well as quoted on financial planning topics in a variety of local and national publications.
He is active with National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and NAPFA Consumer Education Foundation (NCEF). Jim has served as an industry expert for the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) Exams Advisory Project Group that develops and reviews questions for the Series 63, 65 and 66 securities exams.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Virginia Tech and has served in the financial services industry for 50+ years. Jim enjoys being involved with his community. He chairs the boards of Feeding Southwest Virginia, Alta Mons, Inc., and serves as Vice President of Eastmont Community Foundation as well as Board Member of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation.
Jim and his wife Brenda live in Salem with their cats and enjoys going to Virginia Tech sporting events, especially Hokie basketball and football.

Mr. Brothers is a Member in the Roanoke office of Spilman, Thomas & Battle, PLLC. He has been the past Chair of the Board of Governors for the Virginia State Bar Trusts and Estates Section and is a frequent lecturer on issues related to the federal transfer tax system and related estate planning topics.
He did his undergraduate work at Williams College and then went back to his hometown of Nashville to get his JD at Vanderbilt. He earned his Masters of Law in Taxation from the University of Florida.
More importantly, he is a recent first-time grandfather.

Jeff Barbour, CPA, Partner
Brown Edwards – Roanoke
Jeff is a partner and tax service line leader for the firm and is based in the Roanoke office. He provides tax compliance and advisory services to business, individual, and estate & trust clients. Jeff’s undergraduate work was at Averett University in Danville, VA, and he received his Master of Accountancy with a concentration in Taxation from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Jeff serves on the board of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, is a member of the planning committee for the Virginia Conference on Federal Taxation and is involved with other professional organizations. Outside of taxes, Jeff enjoys spending time with his family and is involved in his church.

GUESTS: The guest fee is $35. Guests must be registered in advance by a member. Guests who are in good standing at another region's Estate Planning Council must register, but are not required to be sponsored by a member.
CANCELLATIONS must be received by e-mail as noted above by 12 Noon, Monday, November 3rd. Failure to cancel by this date will cause you to be assessed a late penalty of $35.00
